Description

Netball is an exciting, fast-paced team sport played by over 20 million people worldwide.  A court sport similar to basketball, netball differs from basketball in these key ways:

  • No dribbling – Unlike basketball, netball players cannot run with the ball - success therefore depends on teamwork, collaboration and strategic passing rather than individual dominance.

  • No backboards – Netball hoops do not have backboards, meaning shots require greater accuracy and control.

  • Positions with restrictions – Each player has designated zones on the court where they can move, promoting strategic positioning and teamwork.

  • Non-contact sport – physical obstruction and aggressive contact are not allowed, making the game safer and more accessible.  Netball emphasizes skill and positioning over physicality, reducing the risk of injuries.

  • Seven players per team – Instead of five players like basketball, netball teams consist of seven players, each with specific roles and responsibilities. With no height advantage necessary, players of all sizes and abilities can excel.

This 8-week program introduces players to the game of netball, emphasizing teamwork, strategy, and skill development while promoting inclusivity and fitness.

This curriculum will:

  • Introduce students to the rules and fundamentals of netball.

  • Highlight key differences between netball and other mainstream sports.

  • Develop skills in passing, footwork, and shooting.

  • Improve agility, coordination, and spatial awareness, benefiting athletes who participate in multiple sports.
