CHEMISTRY A
This course is offered during the summer through Westport Continuing Education for credit
recovery or advancement. Staples students seeking to enroll must obtain prior written approval from their school counselor and the science department coordinator. The school counselor and department coordinator indicate their approval via signature on the Westport Summer School Registration Form.
Chemistry A is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. This course describes the nature of matter in terms of molecular behavior. Concepts studied in Chemistry A require students to develop a deep conceptual understanding of matter and energy at the molecular level and therefore requires strong mathematical and critical thinking skills. Topics will include atomic structure, periodic properties, chemical bonding and reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, gas laws, solutions, and acids and bases. Evaluation is based on written tests, quizzes, laboratory reports, special projects, and homework.

Instructions and Application to Register:
1) Complete the High School Credit Application
2) Obtain signatures from the subject area department coordinator and your school counselor
3) Submit the form with the signatures to Westport Continuing Education, #1040, Staples High School
No class on Friday, July 3
There are no refunds or credits for withdrawals from high school academic credit courses.
