Description

This is a four week course that reviews some of the most important prerequisite math topics from seventh grade to provide students a solid foundation for a class as fundamental as Algebra 1. Topics covered include operations with rational numbers, variable expressions, equations & inequalities, and proportional reasoning. Additionally, the course provides students the opportunity to hone their problem-solving skills and critical thinking necessary for successful completion of Algebra 1 in eighth grade. Content: The Gear up for Algebra 1 course covers essential mathematical concepts that are essential for success in Algebra 1 in grade 8.

Locations: A combination of in-person at Bedford Middle School and online through Google Meet.

Dates/Times:  July 1 through July 26, 2024

• Monday 8-10 AM; virtual session via Google Meet
• Tuesday 8-11 AM; in -person (BMS Room #251)
• Wednesday 8-10 AM; virtual session via Google Meet
• Thursday 8-11 AM; in person (BMS Room #251)
• Friday 8-10 AM; virtual session via Google Meet

Requirements:

• Virtual attendance is mandatory with a maximum of 2 absences; in-person attendance is mandatory with a maximum of 2 absences.
• Students must earn a minimum of 85% on the final exam for entrance into Algebra 1 in 8th grade.

 

 

 

 

 

Additional Notes

Student drop-off and pick-up will take place at the Bedford Middle School front entrance.
