ROBOTICS (Entering Gr. 6 & up): Join us in this
hands-on course, where we will design robots to compete in fun
challenges. Learn how to break down the requirements, build robots to
meet the needs of the task, and then program them to complete it! Using
Lego's Mindstorm kits, you will have fun building and running your
robots. (Instructor, Rob Rogers)
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND YOU (Entering Gr. 7 & up): Join us for a photographic
experience that involves capturing an image, working with it using Adobe
Photoshop, and exploring ways to use digital photography to create a
message/story that matters to you. You’ll learn about the basics of
technology as well as what makes a photographic presentation
meaningful. A portfolio of work will be created on CD by each student.
Students are encouraged to bring their digital camera and images to
class. (Instructor, Erica Livingston)
3D ANIMATION (Entering
Gr. 8 & up):
An exciting, hands-on introduction to 3D computer
animation. Learn about the essentials of LightWave 3D software,
covering polygonal modeling, surfacing, and keyframe animation
techniques. This is the same powerful software being used in most
television shows that rely on 3D special effects. With fun mini-projects
designed to build on each other, you will quickly learn to use the
powertools in Modeler and navigate the movie set environments in Layout.
We’ll add music to spice up your 3D experiments and burn your final
quicktime movies onto a CD. Prerequisite: comfort with basic computer
skills. (Instructor, Rob Rogers)
