ENGLISH ENRICHMENT
TUTORIAL (Entering Gr. 9-11):
This course offers
intensive instruction in reading and writing within a small class
setting. Tailored to suit the individual student and foster an open
dialogue for self-reflection and skill building. The enrichment nature
of the program will help prepare students to meet the challenges of the
upcoming year. Students will approach critical reading and writing
skills through a creative project-oriented approach. Students will
cultivate a “writer’s voice” through personal narratives,
journalistic-style writing, poetry and poetic interpretation,
playwriting, reading excerpts from Shakespeare, as well as short story
reading and analysis. Grammar and vocabulary instruction will be
included. The instructor will offer a diagnostic assessment at both the
beginning and end of the course to chart each student’s progress.

WRITE THIS WAY: ACADEMIC WRITING (Entering Gr. 9-11) The
course is open to incoming ninth and tenth graders. Students who are
entering their junior year will find this material to be a review, but
if they struggled this is a fine class for them. The course will cover
academic writing concerns including English and social studies type
papers and the new SAT essay will be covered as well. Most writing will
be done cooperatively and in class, but there will be daily homework.
Limit 10. (Instructor, Michael Fulton) MYSTORIES: CREATIVE NON-FICTION WRITING AND READING (Entering Gr. 9-12):
This course is open to any student interested in bettering his or her
written expression through developing personal stories into creative
non-fiction narratives. Students and parents should be warned that to
get the most out of such a course, students should be prepared to write
on a daily basis and to make time for writing outside of class.
Students will brainstorm stories from their lives and write them in a
writer’s workshop type of classroom. Daily lessons will be supplemented
with readings that compliment the assignment’s subject matter and
theme. Limit 12. (Instructor, Michael Fulton) STUDY SKILLS
