DRIVER'S EDUCATION

DRIVER'S EDUCATION:  Eligible students are 16-18 year old high school students who attend Staples High School or reside in Westport. The cost of classroom and behind the wheel driver education may be looked upon as an investment in future savings; many companies offer insurance discounts for completion of a state certified program.  The Driver Education registration/permission forms with additional details are available in our office or on our website. You may also visit the DMV website Do not register online for this course.

BEHIND THE WHEEL INSTRUCTION:  Eight hours of driving instruction. Begin your driving instruction well in advance of your testing date. (Instructors, Frank Weiss, Amedeo Cannone and John Horrigan)

Learner’s Permit required Driving hours (8) are scheduled by appointment after school and/or on weekends. Begin the driving instruction well in advance of the testing date.  Lessons usually are scheduled for 1 hour, but may be scheduled in 1/2, 1, 11/2, or 2 hour increments. Instruction includes local driving in commercial and residential areas, and parking skills. Vehicles are dual-controlled. As a follow-up to each structured lesson, we strongly advise an additional 2 to 3 hours of practice driving with a parent. For the student who has completed the 30 hour Driver and Traffic Safety Education course, the learner’s permit must be in effect for at least 120 days (180 days otherwise) before the student can take the road test to obtain a driver’s license. Please note: If a student needs to cancel a lesson, the student is responsible for contacting the instructor at least one day in advance. Failure to do so will result in the student being charged for the lesson.
