ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE  (Entering Gr. 1-2): Bring to life wonderful scenes from mini musical plays using imagination and creativity to create a performance in front of a live audience at the Westport Senior Center!  All students will be encouraged to sing, and dance, and also take an active role in creating their very own costumes and props!  We will focus on the voice as well as composition.  We’ll stimulate your creativity and open the door to the exciting and magical experience of theater!  Bring snack and lunch. MINI-MYSTERY THEATER (Entering Gr. 3-5): Attention all thespians, playwrights, and detectives!  Have fun preparing and dramatizing mini-mysteries.  You’ll write the scripts, prepare costumes and props, advertise, and perform each mystery.  You’ll also take part in learning how to block and choreograph a production.  You will also get to participate in set design, lighting and work backstage during the plays.  We are thrilled to use the school’s main stage! Parents and friends will be invited to attend a Friday production.  Snack and lunch are important times for us to share and collaborate. (Instructors, Stephanie Schock, Jane Garard)

TEEN MUSICAL THEATER * PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP (Entering Gr. 5-8): An exciting, fun-filled theater arts workshop! Performers will develop their acting, singing, dancing, improvisation, set design, and makeup skills to star in performances at the end of the session. Each performer will solo in the performance. WESTPORT SUMMER THEATER CAMP (Entering Gr. 5-9): 
Join us for an unforgettable 5-week theatre experience.  We will be creating a new version of the classic Cinderella story with the words & music of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Steven Sondheim, Gilbert & Sullivan, to name a few. (It’s will be  more like “Enchanted” meets Roald Dahl, Fractured Fairytales and American Idol.) Work on your acting, singing, and dancing skills, as well as help with set design, decoration, props and costume construction.  There will be a variety of male and female roles.  If you prefer being behind the scenes, there are a limited number of openings for technical theatre training.  Camp Directors:  Karen McCormick, Drama Teacher & Lynne Karmen, Art Teacher at Bedford Middle School.  Senior staff includes highly talented Staples graduates aided by current Staples students.  Bring or buy lunch.

(Entering Gr. 5-9):  Get involved in the exciting world of stage design by creating the “Cinderella” sets for the Westport Summer Theater Camp.  You will create miniature 3-dimensional models of your ideas, design, build and paint the scenery, and experience the excitement of opening night!  (Instructor, Lynne Karmen)

INTRODUCTION TO A SCHOOL TV STUDIO (Entering Gr. 4-6, 5-8): Learn how the “morning news” is created through ‘hands-on’ activities associated with live video communication and news production. You will learn basic camera use and video editing as it applies to the creation of short news programs. The studio component of the course will introduce pre-production planning, production, and post-production of video for use in live television shows. Techniques include concept development, interviewing, camera work, microphone use, and sound recording. (Instructor, Karen McCormick at BMS; Amy DeCeault at GFS)
